How are those resolutions coming along? If you're like most North Americans then you're well on your way to forgetting what you even decided to change for yourself (only 8% of people who make resolutions keep them!). 53% of Americans who participated in a resolutions study cited earning more money as a top decision for 2018, with 45% sticking to the tried and true lose weight and get in-shape choice. 92% of those participants will fail. To be fair, those are lofty and many tiered goals. Losing weight requires changed eating habits, potentially changed sleeping habits, and investing in a new activity such as a gym membership or fitness classes. That's a lot of change. It can be overwhelming! I'd like to present a very practical and very meaningful guide for positive change that’ll keep you going in 2018. Go paperless! This is a step in the right direction for reducing waste and becoming a more aware and sustainable resolver. On average, households receive 69 lbs of junk mail each year. That's just the junk mail! Go paperless in your billing. Have receipts, bills and statements emailed to you. 24 trees go into making a ton of uncoated, non-recycled printing paper (a pallet of #20 copier paper comprising of 40 cartons weighs a ton). More than 5 trees are cut down for every ton of coated, high-end, magazine-quality virgin paper. Low-end magazine quality paper claims 8 trees per ton. Let’s opt for digital magazines and audio books. The world consumption for paper has actually gone up 400% in the last 40 years! Can you believe it?! 4 billion trees (about 35%) are cut down every year. In terms of per person use, it's around 749 lbs of paper per year. To go paperless in billing, statements takes 10-30 minutes, a one-time [...]
Have you always wanted to be a hairstylist? “No...it was always a sort of hobby, but it took me a long time to realize this is what I was meant to do. "Peru, I’ve always wanted to climb Machu Picchu.” Favorite place you have travelled to? “This is a really hard question because I’ve traveled to a lot of different places and have had a lot of VERY different and amazing experiences, but I’d say Dubai on a desert safari.” What do you love most about your job? “The diversity of it...every day is different, different people, different personal styles.” What do you look most forward to in your career? “Doing creative colours and competing in hair/makeup. Joan won free services for 1 year at Sin 7 Salon, just for referring 3 or more guests to us between January 1 and March 31. Each guest who referred at least 3 new people during that time was entered in the draw, and Courtney pulled her name out of the hat. HUGE MEGA THANK YOU to everyone who participated! We've really loved meeting all of your friends, family, neighbors, bank tellers, baristas, etc., and we sincerely hope they enjoyed coming in to Sin 7 Salon.

If you're one of our regular guests you'll know that we keep several iPads around the salon. They're great tools for consultations (loads of visuals at our fingertips), and a fun way to kill time while your hair colour is processing. Next time you're in, check out the 3 new folders that we've created for your viewing pleasure: Aveda Sourcing Stories, Aveda Makeup How-To's, and Aveda Hair How-To's. Each of these folders has several videos for you to enjoy in each of those subjects. Ever wonder where Aveda gets ingredients like Babassu, Morikue, Argan oil, Tumeric, or Uruku pigment? Now you can check out these amazing stories about organic and sustainable sourcing, processing, and many partnerships with indiginous people around the world. Cool, hey? For instance, did you know that the organic lavender and rose oil in Aveda products comes from Bulgarian family flower farms formerly occupied by the communist government? Indeed! Check out those and many other super interesting sourcing stories next time you're in. You'll learn just how committed Aveda is to protecting the earth as well as its people, and where they get those exotic, high-performance ingredients. Curious how to do a smokey eye, or get a semi-matte finish with mineral makeup? Wonder no more as we've compiled the best of Aveda's makeup how-to's and plunked them onto the iPads. Also included will be the latest 2 limited-edition palette tutorials so you will always be in-the-know on the latest makeup trends and techniques. We've also included Aveda hair tutorials featuring pros like the amazing Antoinette Beenders. Learn how to create a sculpted short style, get all-day smooth hair, or how to enhance natural curl, among other things. If you have any questions just ask one of our Vanity Managers and we'll be more than happy to assist [...]
Sigh. We really REALLY didn't want to ever have to do this. Instead of the issue of no-shows and last-minute cancellations getting better, it's gotten exponentially worse, so we've had to implement a new policy. Please take a minute to read about it here, and if you have any questions or concerns please direct them to Courtney at email@example.com. If there is a true emergency, of course we will deal with that accordingly. We hold our guests in the highest regard, and we absolutely respect your time and the fact that "life happens". We also care deeply for our team of stylists, who work so very hard at Sin 7 Salon making you look and feel wonderful. As you know, we live in one of the most expensive regions in North America, and our cost of living is going nowhere but UP UP UP. When you're missing a huge chunk of a paycheque due to no-shows and last-minute cancellations, well, it makes it that much harder just to survive. Our stylists work on a commission basis, and we need to protect them. When you make an appointment, that time is held for you. If you don't show, that stylist doesn't get paid for that time (sometimes up to 3 or more hours, depending). If you cancel within 24 hours, we have a very slim chance of filling the spot. More than 24 hours, we can usually do it. We hope you understand.
Hey everyone just a reminder that our old phone number is no longer active. To reach Sin 7 Salon you'll need to edit your speed dial to 604-560-5360. Thanks! See ya soon!
Well, not just yet, but we should be ready to move in to our new location on the corner of Johnston and Pacific in a few short weeks - if all goes well, October 15 will be our first day taking appointments there! Everything's wrapped in plastic right now and awaiting a coat of paint, but we have been assured that it WILL, SOON, look like an actual hair salon. We can't wait! PS - Save the date, Sunday November 16 is our Grand Opening/Holiday Kick-Off Soiree. You don't want to miss this shindig, we promise.
Once again Sin 7 Salon is proud to take part in the Women of Value fashion fundraiser for Servants Anonymous Society (SAS). We will see you there!
