Retexturizing, aka PERMS! We are into it – bring on the curls (and waves)!

You'll never guess what we did last Sunday.  We had a perm class! Yes, perms, aka "retexturing" which sounds much less scary, doesn't it? You may be wondering what we've been up to lately. Or not. But I'm going to tell you anyway - we had a perm class last Sunday! Yes, perms, aka "retexturing" which sounds much less scary, doesn't it? Over the last 20 years or so, hairstylists have been talking people out of perms and into colour instead. Why? Well, curls were on the outs, and frankly we were tired of doing them. All those spiral sets, with what seemed like 1500 rods, taking HOURS. It was horrible for the guest as well as the stylist. So what has changed? Well, for one, we are doing a modern version of the perm. This means body, wave, fullness and hold, not a head full of Ramen noodles. We are wrapping using 25 rods or less.   There are still a few rules and guidelines. If you are over about 25% highlighted with bleach, you have years of home colour built up, or your hair's porosity is otherwise greatly compromised, you probably should not retexturize. You should also have realistic expectations. Because the modern perm is loose and soft, it will likely straighten out again in about 3 - 4 months. We can't exactly take baby fine, thin hair and make it thick, but we can give it some texture and body making it easier to style. Hair Trends for 2013
